☯ Full Synopsis : "Shawn McGyver and his friend Mike Anderson had been with the Philadelphia Police for only a few years when war interrupted their chosen profession. Trained marksman they volunteered to serve their nation as members of the elite Berdan Sharpshooters; soldiers, who man-for-man were responsible for more Rebel casualties than any unit in the Union Army. Having come to Virginia they worked as scout, skirmisher and sniper, doing what they could to help General McClellan in his pursuit to end the war quickly. They became soldiers, proud of their comrades and their unit. Then the mutilated bodies were discovered. Remembering that the recently promoted Lieutenant McGyver had been trained as a police investigator in London, his superiors tasked him with the unofficial investigation into the grisly crimes. An investigation that would find him at odds with the official investigators. Shawn McGyver would now have to lead his platoon against a determined enemy, investigate a grisly series of murders and protect himself and those he cared about most from a vindictive and dangerous officer."Article| ROBERT L. ☯ Full Synopsis : "The Peninsula. A region in California that separates many towns and cities south of San Francisco from the Pacific Ocean. While some parts of the Peninsula are densely populated, others are home to very tightknit communities. Belmont is one of the smaller ones. So, when serial killer Jon Scott Dunkle emerged in the early 1980s and started preying on teenage boys, the town was in the grips of terror. Depending on who you talked to, Jon Scott Dunkle was either sane or insane, an overgrown kid or an evil genius. One moment, Dunkle would outsmart law enforcement by participating in searches for missing boys he murdered without giving away a hint that he was the killer. In the next moment, he was injecting bacon grease into his penis. Psychologists would eventually diagnose him as a Paranoid Schizophrenic. When the dust settled, Jon Scott Dunkle would be charged with three murders, and two attempted murders, leaving a grieving town confused and angry."Article| C L Swinney| Statement ..."

☯ Full Synopsis : "The first body was atypical in law enforcement terms because it had been left in an open field where it was bound to be discovered. To make certain it was found as left; someone called the LAPD division and informed them where it could be located. The first body was left in Jeff’s division and he and his partner were assigned to the case. Rather than hide the body of a naked woman, the murderer left it in a vacant field. The body was covered with red rose petals and red rose blossoms. To compound the irregularity, the woman’s breast and pubic area had been left uncovered. What was the significance? A clue, in the form of two initials, was left on the yoga mat and another initial in the dirt. Again, what was the relevance? The killer had been meticulous, leaving the body on an expensive yoga mat with the feet facing east. Jeff was tall at six feet, three inches. He was well built and weighed two hundred and twenty-five muscular pounds. Working out at his gym three days a week kept him in good physical condition. The women in his division thought he was extremely handsome, with light brown hair and fascinating gray eyes. His partner was shorter and less handsome. Jeff was by far the cleverer of the two and suspected this carefully planned murder might be the first of a repeater, a serial killer. Jeff’s suspicions were vindicated with the second body, this time left in a different division; causing interdivision rivalry. This body was also naked, covered with red carnations petals and blossoms. Again the breasts and pubic area had been left uncovered. Jeff was doing his best to keep the media from discovering that a serial killer was on the loose. His hopes for keeping the media in the dark were dashed when he was contacted by Cinda, a reporter for Los Angeles Magazine. Cinda was a strikingly beautiful young Black woman who was as clever as Jeff. She put two and two together and came up with serial killer. She offers Jeff a deal that he cannot refuse. To compound Jeff’s problems, the clues continue to point to religion, rather than serial murder. Why would a religious organization be murdering young women and leaving a trail of clues for Jeff to follow? Another naked young woman is found, covered in red flower petals, with clues again pointing toward religion; possibly a new religion. If Jeff is going to prevent any more young women from being murdered, he will have to find the killer and do it quickly. Just as important, he needs to keep him and Cinda from becoming the killer’s next victims."Article| Ray Johnson| Statement ..."

He discovers as soon as he arrives that he's been hired for more than his letter-writing skills—a series of disturbing pranks have kept the school in an uproar. The headmaster expects Lacey to discover the identity of the prankster—immediately. Problems intensify when a groom of the school's stables turns up dead in a lock of the nearby canal. A Romany is arrested for the murder, and Lacey is the only person who believes him innocent. As Lacey works to discover what happened, he gets drawn into the secrets of Marianne Simmons, the actress who'd lived upstairs from Lacey in London. ☯ Full Synopsis : "The fall and rise of ancient Rome from more than two decades of internal conflict, as its aristocracy took up arms against each other. By the early first century BC, the Roman Republic had already carved itself a massive empire and was easily the most powerful state in the Mediterranean. Roman armies had marched victoriously over enemies far and wide, but the Roman heartland was soon to feel the tramp of armies on campaign as the Republic was convulsed by civil war and rival warlords vied for supremacy, sounding the first death knell of the Republican system. At the center of the conflict was the rivalry between Marius, victor of the Jugurthine and Northern wars, and his former subordinate, Sulla. But, as Gareth Sampson points out in this new analysis, the situation was much more complex than the traditional view portrays it and the scope of the First Civil War both wider and longer. This narrative and analysis of a critical and bloody period in Roman history will make an ideal sequel to the author’s Crisis of Rome (and a prequel to his first book, The Defeat of Rome). “A very readable insight into a period of Roman history that is very important but a mystery to most people.”—Firetrench"Article| Gareth C.
