♥ Book Title : A Creative Writing Handbook for African Writers and Students
☯ Full Synopsis : "Creative writing is a relatively new phenomenon in African universities, as the influence of the American higher education system gains ground on the continent. Whilst there are many creative writing course books that focus on American/European audiences, there are almost no books with an African literary emphasis in mind, placing African literature and writing into a wider literary context and tradition, and targeting African writers, students and teachers of creative writing. Intending to fill this gap, this book is meant for teachers and students of creative writing, poetry and African literature on the African continent and beyond, especially young African writers."Article| Tanure Ojaide| Statement ..."

♥ Book Title : Creative Writing
☯ Full Synopsis : "By Sue Thomas www.suethomas.net In the early 1990s there were very few creative writing degrees in the UK but lots of creative writing workshops in the community. Many writers, including me, taught creative writing in libraries, prisons, hospitals, schools, even living rooms. The students were hugely varied, from enthusiastic poets to prospective autobiographers and hopeful screenwriters and everything in between. I’m no longer involved in that way but such groups are still very popular, and they often provide a valuable income for self-employed writers. The idea for ‘Creative Writing: A Handbook for Workshop Leaders’ came from a collaboration between East Midlands Arts and the University of Nottingham’s Department of Adult Education, both now defunct. Its aim was to support creative writing teachers by collecting the wisdom of those East Midlands writers who were already involved in the practice. Many writers who teach writing have no formal training in teaching or facilitation and can find very few resources to help them when they’re starting out, or support them as they develop their skills. The book is divided into the following sections: Teaching Adults Teaching Writing Workshop Exercises Problems and Issues Resources and Information Of course some of the material is now wildly out of date and there are virtually no web-based resources but a lot of it will still be useful. I especially like the inspiring vignettes by writers Catherine Byron, Kevin Fegan, Martin Glynn, Jacek Laskowski and Kathy Page."Article| Sue Thomas| Statement ..."

♥ Book Title : The Creative Writing Workbook
☯ Full Synopsis : "This is a companion to The Creative Writing Handbook - now in its second edition. It is very much aimed at the individual writer, based on the idea that real writing comes from within and that writing is a craft, skill with determination, art with attitude. The book is filled with useful ideas and inspiring techniques for exploring and exploiting resources available, both within and without. It focuses on three major areas - the writer's roots (family, class and gender), the writer's resources (memory and language) and the writer's art (form and technique). Chapters focus on many topics, including how memory shapes a writer's material, the pro-creative force of words and the ambiguities of art and artfulness. Many examples of established writers' works are cited to give the fledgling writer much practical help."Article| John Singleton| Statement ..."
