☯ Full Synopsis : "Agent Jim Huggins is embroiled in the largest case of his career. He was recruited shortly after graduating from Illinois. After a short stint with the Bureau the government set up a new agency that would concentrate on International Intelligence. Since he had a passion for intelligence he was offered a job within the new agency. He was assigned to the midwest office based in Chicago. What follows is an excerpt from the story. The school bus stopped at the corner, the tall long haired blonde girl with designer cut jeans got on board and waved at the other students on the bus and said hello to the driver. Today I noticed it was not the same driver that drove the bus for the past three weeks. It was a young woman that appeared to be in her middle thirties with dark brown hair cropped short in a bob, she was not wearing a wedding band but she had a Bluetooth or something stuck in her left ear so she could communicate with whoever she was talking to. She acknowledged the blonde girl, looked at her student ID and checked her log sheet to make sure she was supposed to be on this bus. Then the bus proceeded down the street until it got to the next corner where it stopped to pick up other students. As for me I could continue my surveillance. The blonde girl named Elisia is the daughter of the man I am following. He is believed to be a spy from an eastern European country that was once part of the Soviet Union. Since the breakup of the Soviet Union most of the satellite countries have their own networks. Why he is under surveillance is not my concern, my boss Rodger Allen McCray Field Supervisor Chicago office of international intelligence (I.I.A.) issued the order. Keep an eye on Karl Buranski record his every move and keep an eye on his family to see who they are in contact with. ☯ Full Synopsis : "Nathan Hale, the author’s historical namesake, was America’s first spy, a Revolutionary War hero who famously said “I regret that I have but one life to give for my country” before being hanged by the British. In the Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales series, author Nathan Hale channels his namesake to present history’s roughest, toughest, and craziest stories in the graphic novel format. One Dead Spy tackles the story of Hale himself, who was an officer and spy for the American rebels during the Revolutionary War. Author Hale highlights the unusual, gruesome, and just plain unbelievable truth of historical Nathan Hale—from his early unlucky days at Yale to his later unlucky days as an officer—and America during the Revolutionary War. Praise for Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales: One Dead Spy "An innovative approach to history that will have young people reading with pleasure." —Kirkus Reviews "Readers interested in American history will enjoy these graphic novels... Comic panels of varying sizes enhance the real-life events and support the stories’ over-the-top humor... the writing is accessible and entertaining; author Hale’s style gives readers an insider-y, you-are-there-type scoop." —Horn Book"Article| Nathan Hale| Statement ..."

☯ Full Synopsis : "“ENTHRALLING.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review) Alexsi Ivanovich Smirnov, an orphan and a thief, has been living by his wits and surviving below the ever-watchful eye of the Soviet system until his luck finally runs out. In 1936, at the age of 16, Alexsi is caught by the NKVD and given a choice: disappear forever in the basement of the Lubyanka or be trained and inserted as a spy into Nazi Germany. Now Alexsi has no choice but to live as the devoted nephew of a high-ranking Nazi official, and ultimately for the legendary German spymaster Wilhelm Canaris, all the while acting as a double agent—reporting back to the NKVD and avoiding detection by the Gestapo. Trapped between two of the most notorious dictatorships in history, Alexsi’s goal is the same as it has always been: show loyalty to no one, and survive at all costs. But soon Alexsi is tested when he is chosen by the Gestapo to spearhead one of the most desperate operations of the war: to infiltrate the site of the Tehran conference between Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin—and ensure their assassination. For Alexsi, it’s the moment of truth. What does he believe in and who is worth fighting for? Meanwhile, the fate of the world hangs in the balance. . ."Article| William Christie| Statement ..."

☯ Full Synopsis : "The relationship between thought, language, and the world is an intimate one. When we have an idea or thought about the world and we wish to express that idea or thought to others we utter a sentence or make a statement. If the statement correctly describes the world then it is true. Moreover, it seems as though our ability to have more complex or sophisticated thoughts about the world increases as the complexity of our language or our ability to use the language increases. Understanding the complex relationship between language, thought, and the world is one of the central aims of philosophy. This book is an attempt to increase our understanding of this complex relationship by focusing on certain philosophical issues that arise from our ability to refer to objects in the world though the use of language. In particular, it is an attempt to solve the puzzles of reference and belief that Frege and Russell presented within the context of a theory of direct reference for proper names."Article| G.W. ☯ Full Synopsis : "This changes everything we thought we knew about John Steinbeck. After languishing in the CIA’s archives for 60 years, a letter is uncovered in John Steinbeck’s own hand that shatters everything history tells us about the author’s life. Written in 1952, to CIA Director Walter Bedell Smith, Steinbeck makes an offer to become an asset for the Agency during a trip to Europe later that year. More shocking than Steinbeck’s letter is Smith’s reply accepting John’s proposal. Discovered by author Brian Kannard, these letters create the tantalizing proposal that John Steinbeck was, in fact, a CIA spy. Utilizing information from Steinbeck’s FBI file, John’s own correspondence, and interviews with John’s son Thomas Steinbeck, playwright Edward Albee, a former CIA intelligence officer, and others, Steinbeck: Citizen Spy uncovers the secret life of American cultural icon and Nobel Prize–winner, John Steinbeck. •Did Steinbeck actively gather information for the intelligence community during his 1947 and 1963 trips to the Soviet Union? •Why was the controversial author of The Grapes of Wrath never called before the House Select Committee on Un-American Activities, despite alleged ties to Communist organizations? •Did the CIA influence Steinbeck to produce Cold War propaganda as part of Operation MOCKINGBIRD? •Why did the CIA admit to the Church Committee in 1975 that Steinbeck was a subject of their illegal mail-opening program known as HTLINGUAL? These and a host of other resources leave little doubt that there are depths yet unplumbed in the life of one of America’s most treasured authors. Just how heavily was Steinbeck involved in CIA operations? What did he know? And how much did he sacrifice for his country? Steinbeck: Citizen Spy brings us one step closer to the truth."Article| Brian Kannard| Statement ..."

☯ Full Synopsis : "Petty Officer John G. Makie of the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve did not realize what he was getting into in the summer of 1942, when he gave an oath at Camp X under the Canadian Secrets Act of 1939. He was only seventeen years old and determined to defend the freedom of Canada. He did so, in the most extraordinary way. He was special agent number 034, of the secret service group - under water demolition squadron. These secret agents were very highly trained commandos, who came from Canada, Britain, and Australia. These fearless men were scuba divers trained in small arms and hand-to-hand combat. They entered enemy occupied countries by the sea, carried out acts of sabotage and clandestine warfare. Then, they quickly disappeared into the night, back to the sea. These men had no name or rank, just mission after mission in Russia, Norway, Sweden, and France. This brave group of men, personally encouraged by Sir Winston Churchill, Sir William Stephenson, and Lord Louis Mountbatten set out to set Europe ablaze. When the war was over in Europe they set out to mop up Burma and Hong Kong. Yet no record of fallen buddies can be found. The year 1996 marks the end of the fifty-year gag order by oath and with it, the truth is finally set free. The Spy Worker reveals secrets of a time long, long agoall accounted by the lone survivor, now in his eighties which are finally free to share with friends and family. After many therapeutic sessions over the last ten years, events of this forgotten group are starting to surface. Although there are no records of their missions or medals of valor ever rewarded, The Spy Worker pays tribute to the unsung heroes of war in remembering their notable acts of bravery."Article| John M.
