☯ Full Synopsis : "From the Preface: This manual, Child Protective Services: A Guide for Caseworkers, examines the roles and responsibilities of child protective services (CPS) workers, who are at the forefront of every community's child protection efforts. The manual describes the basic stages of the CPS process and the steps necessary to accomplish each stage: intake, initial assessment or investigation, family assessment, case planning, service provision, evaluation of family progress, and case closure. Best practices and critical issues in casework practice are underscored throughout. The primary audience for this manual includes CPS caseworkers, supervisors, and administrators. State and local CPS agency trainers may use the manual for preservice or inservice training of CPS caseworkers, while schools of social work may add it to class reading lists to orient students to the field of child protection. In addition, other professionals and concerned community members may consult the manual for a greater understanding of the child protection process. This manual builds on the information presented in A Coordinated Response to Child Abuse and Neglect: The Foundation for Practice. Readers are encouraged to begin with that manual as it addresses important information on which CPS practice is based-including definitions of child maltreatment, risk factors, consequences, and the Federal and State basis for intervention. Some manuals in the series also may be of interest in understanding the roles of other professional groups in responding to child abuse and neglect, including: Substance abuse treatment providers; Domestic violence victim advocates; Educators; Law enforcement personnel. Other manuals address special issues, such as building partnerships and working with the courts on CPS cases."Article| no defined| Statement ..."

☯ Full Synopsis : "Bea Kapinski, a longtime case worker for Child Protective Services in Arizona, reveals a behind-the-scenes look at fighting for children in this account that urges reform. One of her first cases was an about-to-be homeless woman who called in a CPS report on herself because she didnt know what else to do. Linda and her six children met the author in an undesirable part of Phoenix at the Motel 6 where they were staying. They were on their last paid night at the motel. Can you please do something? Linda pleaded. Nothing with CPS was ever easy: not the work, not the people, not the policies, not the outcomes. In this memoir, the author shares her most memorable and haunting casesmany of which stemmed from families abusing alcohol and/or drugs, living in poverty, and coping with mental illness. While we must keep CPS workers accountable when something goes wrong, she argues that we need to make it harder for drug-addicted parents to continue having children and gaming the system. Join the author as she reveals the challenging, frustrating, and sometimes rewarding career of being a case manager dedicated to helping families in Child Protective Services."Article| Bea Kapinski| Statement ..."

☯ Full Synopsis : ""Justice" is a work of fiction that entices the reader to grapple with questions about what justice really means. Does a courtroom decision equal justice? Do two wrongs make a right? Does assassinating a killer make the act just? These are a few the questions raised in "Justice"... questions for the reader to ponder and answer. Following each murder, the killer torments the parents of his victims with details of the child's abduction and murder. With each murder, community hysteria increases and Amato and his squad feel the pressure to apprehend the killer. Although the killer is finally apprehended and he readily admits to the killings and blames his own abuse-riddled childhood as the motive for his reign of terror the killer is let free on a technicality, but he killings don't stop there. Now the squad has to pressure of making sure the killer is caught again and not set free this time. But how can they make sure the killer doesn't slip through the judicial cracks again? As with the other Mike Amato novels, this work also contains a prologue and epilogue.
