☯ Full Synopsis : "From a village in the Land of Goshen, a brilliant but physically challenged boy named Yoram manages to make his way into the heart of ancient Egypt. Firsthand, he witnesses the changing culture of the Children of Israel and the different mindsets of the pharaohs who ascend to the throne. Connecting the dots between the two histories, Yoram lives through the passions and frustrations that prevail as the weaker young nation falls inevitably into subjugation. This fascinating novel covers the history of the Hebrew nation from its peak of contentment to its descent into slavery. Through Yoram’s eyes and tribulations, Who Knew Not Joseph presents a real picture of the human side of that first holocaust. It tells how there indeed came a pharaoh who knew not Joseph (Exodus 1:8)."Article| Menachem Mannie Magid| Statement ..."

☯ Full Synopsis : "This story takes place deep in the GreatForestwhere people are rarely seen. The inhabitants of this land called Bug-A-Boosmay be bothered from time to time by animals like lizards or bears but most of the time the bugs who live in this story go about thenown business of getting food, building homes or arguing or fighting with each other. Bug A- Boos is a community much like the ones people create, although on a much smaller Ralph the Drone is the main character in this story. He is an unusual bee because he is not simply a worker bee; he is a thinking bee who is concerned over threats to the well being of all of the bugs. It was that characteristic which got Ralph in trouble because he openly disagreed with a plan for handling a drought which was announced by the Monarch, the leader of all the bugs. Ralph found himself banished to the land of the fire ants for daring to suggest a better approach. This proved to be fortunate because Ralph and two friends who joined him, Milllie the Moth and Chuck the Chub, overheard the fire ant''s leader,General G, planning an attackBug-A-Boosand recommended a way to counter the attack. The plan worked and the fire ants were turned back. Ralph was still held in disdain, however. The leader of the fire ants, General G, was not the type of bug that would give up easily. He also vowed to get even with Ralph the Drone and made a pact with the evil Ann Mantis to capture Ralph. She was more than pleased to help General G because of her long standing hate of Ralph. When Ralph is captured by the fire ants, it appears the peaceful community of Boosand its incompetent leader, the Monarch, will at last fall prey to the fire ants."Article| Bill Butler| Statement ..."

☯ Full Synopsis : "A reinterpretation of biblical and Egyptian history that shows Moses and the Pharaoh Akhenaten to be one and the same. • Provides dramatic evidence from both archaeological and documentary sources. • A radical challenge to long-established beliefs on the origin of Semitic religion. During his reign, the Pharaoh Akhenaten was able to abolish the complex pantheon of the ancient Egyptian religion and replace it with a single god, the Aten, who had no image or form. Seizing on the striking similarities between the religious vision of this “heretic” pharaoh and the teachings of Moses, Sigmund Freud was the first to argue that Moses was in fact an Egyptian. Now Ahmed Osman, using recent archaeological discoveries and historical documents, contends that Akhenaten and Moses were one and the same man. In a stunning retelling of the Exodus story, Osman details the events of Moses/Akhenaten's life: how he was brought up by Israelite relatives, ruled Egypt for seventeen years, angered many of his subjects by replacing the traditional Egyptian pantheon with worship of the Aten, and was forced to abdicate the throne. Retreating to the Sinai with his Egyptian and Israelite supporters, he died out of the sight of his followers, presumably at the hands of Seti I, after an unsuccessful attempt to regain his throne. Osman reveals the Egyptian components in the monotheism preached by Moses as well as his use of Egyptian royal ritual and Egyptian religious expression. He shows that even the Ten Commandments betray the direct influence of Spell 125 in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. Moses and Akhenaten provides a radical challenge to long-standing beliefs concerning the origin of Semitic religion and the puzzle of Akhenaten's deviation from ancient Egyptian tradition. In fact, if Osman's contentions are correct, many major Old Testament figures would be of Egyptian origin."Article| Ahmed Osman| Statement ..."

☯ Full Synopsis : "During a brief seventeen-year reign (ca. 1353-1336 B.C.) the pharaoh Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten, founder of the world's first known monotheistic religion, devoted his life and the resources of his kingdom to the worship of the Aten (a deity symbolized by the sun disk) and thus profoundly affected history and the history of art. The move to a new capital, Akhenaten/Amarna, brought essential changes in the depictions of royal women. It was in their female imagery, above all, that the artists of Amarna departed from the traditional iconic representations to emphasize the individual, the natural, in a way unprecedented in Egyptian art. A picture of exceptional intimacy emerges from the sculptures and reliefs of the Amarna Period. Akhenaten, his wife Nefertiti, and their six daughters are seen in emotional interdependence even as they participate in cult rituals. The female principle is emphasized in astonishing images: the aging Queen Mother Tiye, the mysterious Kiya, and Nefertiti, whose painted limestone bust in Berlin is the best-known work from ancient Egypt - perhaps from all antiquity. The workshop of the sculptor Thutmose - one of the few artists of the period whose name is known to us - revealed a treasure trove when it was excavated in 1912. An entire creative process is traced through an examination of the work of Thutmose and his assistants, who lived in a highly structured environment. All was left behind when Amarna was abandoned after the death of Akhenaten and the return to religious orthodoxy."Article| Dorothea Arnold| Statement ..."
